As an archaeologist, I often find myself juggling the thrill of exploration with the realities of travel. My recent stay at Millgate House was an intriguing mix of luxury and practicality, reflecting on both sides of the coin. Nestled off a one-way street, it’s easy to miss the turn, leaving you circling a bit before finding your way in. But once settled, the hotel’s location is undeniably convenient, with the town center and river just a short stroll away. The reception staff, including the lovely manager Sharon, were friendly and helpful throughout. While my room was clean and comfortable, I faced some heating issues that were promptly addressed with a room change, showcasing good service. Free parking is a definite plus, especially in a busy area. Unfortunately, the hotel seems to shy away from modern amenities, as the restaurant and bar were closed during my visit, which is a missed opportunity. The potential is there, but at the current value, travelers might want to weigh their options carefully. Millgate House is adequate for a short stay, but a few upgrades could elevate the experience.
